About Me

After earning a B.S. in Education from the University of Maine at Farmington, I earned a masters degree from the University of Southern Maine. My career as an educator spanned thirty-six years, which included classroom teaching, serving as a consultant in the Maine Department of Education, and directing the student teaching program at the University of Southern Maine.

I have always had an interest in art, and upon retiring, began painting and drawing in earnest. Studying with artist Polly Blythe Goss, I immersed myself in local classes and workshops with a renewed energy, dedicated to the refinement of my painting technique. I love the challenge of intricate pen-and-ink work, and the surprises that watercolor offers.

Spider Web is one of my newer paintings.  In watercolor, the white portions are the actual paper,  so requires a steady hand to paint around it.  This was a fun one to paint.

Exciting news! Pink Peony, one of my favorites, will be featured in the local artist section of Grandeur magazine, published by the News Press, appearing throughout Lee County in Southwest Florida in the December edition. Look for it opposite the back page. I also learned that my cherries painting (Life is Just a Bowl. . . )was published in the same magazine in May, but because we're snowbirds, I missed seeing it!

Thanks to all of you who came to the opening at the Maine Art Gallery in Wiscasset. It was great fun seeing you! The building itself is worth a visit. Built during the presidency of Thomas Jefferson, it stands on a hill overlooking the Sheepscot River, and is a perfect setting for an art gallery - two floors with tall ceilings and large windows making it airy and light. The added lighting creates a soft glow and enhances the lovely paintings on display.

Maizie Argondizza new exhibit at Maine Art Gallery!

I've just joined the Maine Art Gallery in Wiscasset, my home town. This painting is a watercolor of stargazer lilies on 300 lb. coldpress Arches paper. This is done in Windsor & Newton professional grade paints. It will be on exhibit, along with three other watercolors at the Maine Art Gallery's "World of Color" exhibit from July 2 through July 26, 2009. The opening reception will be held from 5-7p.m. on Thursday, July 2. I'm excited to be represented by a Maine gallery and I hope you can join me on the 2nd! Watch for more news - this is my first post and there will be more to come!
